As we all know there is no magic bullet for weight loss.  The only secret to losing weight is to burn more calories  than you consume.  However, there are some herbal weight loss remedies that may help in your goal to lose weight.  There are two main ways that herbs help with weight loss.  They either act as an appetite suppressant and trick the body into thinking it is full, or they work at speeding up the body’s metabolism which helps to burn calories and fat more effectively.

One popular herbal weight loss product is Hoodia Gordonii.  It acts as an appetite suppressant by tricking the brain into believing that the body’s blood sugar level is normal and curbing the sensation of hunger.  Appetite suppressants may work short term, but are not an effective long term solution to weight loss.  Once the herb is no longer taken, the person trying to lose weight goes back to their old habits.

Guarana is an herb that comes from a Brazilian plant.  It contains caffeine and results in increased energy and metabolism.  However some people have experienced symptoms such as anxiety, dizziness and high blood pressure from taking Guarana.

Dandelion is a natural diuretic that is sometimes used as an herbal remedy to lose  weight.  However, diuretics often only promote water weight loss and usually are not effective as a long term weight loss aid.

Cascara is a natural laxative that helps to flush toxins out of the body.  The only problem is that laxatives can also removed good bacteria and remove nutrients if used too much.

Green tea is a safe and popular herbal weight loss aid.  It comes in the form of tea as well as tablets, concentrated pills and in energy drinks.  Green tea is effective in helping to raise the body’s metabolism level which helps to burn calories and fat faster and more effectively.  Green tea has especially been seen to be effective for weight loss when combined with a nutritious diet and regular exercise.

Another effective metabolism booster is cayenne.  Adding this herb to your food will not only give your meals a lot of flavor but can also act as an effective fat burner.

When it comes to herbal weight loss remedies some are more effective than others.  Herbs and foods which act to boost your metabolism offer safe and often effective methods for helping to lose weight.  Herbal appetite suppressants and diuretics on the other hand need to be used with caution.  Consult with your health care provider before taking any weight loss supplements or herbal remedies.
